Tuesday a.m. musings
Truxton Stables' In the Woods runs today in a non-winners of two lifetime starter allowance at Philly Park (8th race). He is morning line 5/1. Truxton is a stellar 24 0-5-3 with earnings of $39,960. Is the 25th time the charm?
Other tidbits of interest -
Churchill Downs dropped the idiotic Kempton Park Kentucky Derby Challenge. The win and you're in Derby prep was run on synthetics in the U.K. (story here)
There should be no kneejerk regulatory reactions to the depressing sales results at Keeneland. Dan Liebman's column in the Bloodhorse relates interviews with breeders and consignors making ridiculous and mostly anticompetitive suggestions like reducing racing dates and limiting stallion book size. The correction is certainly bad news to breeders but it is not an indictment on the industry. Wealth levels fell dramatically in the last twelve months and those at the highest end of the income distribution were the most affected. Race horses are luxury goods meaning that a fall in income results in a more substantial fall in the price of race horses. That is what happened.
Speaking of The Bloodhorse - it has become much thinner in the last year. A typical Bloodhorse had 130-160 pages a few years ago. Now it is between 75-90 pages. That is a major price hike if you adjust for content.

Nice Place! Was hoping for the win, but at least its a couple months worth of room and board... Next time it will happen.
