Shopping across state lines

Trying to pick up a souvenir (Northern Station) from Hollywood Park before the spring/summer meet closes (maybe for the last time?). Unfortunately it ain't that easy.

First off, a claimed horse from California can't race out of state until 60 days after the close of the meet. That means no race before September 17th. Why have such a rule? Because who wouldn't want to claim a quality California filly for $8000 running for an $11,000 purse and ship her east to run for $23,000 in a $10,000 non-winners of three lifetime race in Pennsylvania.

60 days. No big deal. An inconvenience but patience is important in this game.

The second problem is no one wants to claim this horse for Truxton. Four trainers turned us down. Without an owner's license you're asking alot from a trainer. I guess in order to poach horses it might makes sense to get a national license. But the truth of the matter is there is no such thing. From what I can tell, universal licensing, as it stands now, involves sending the National Racing Compact $225 on top of all the state fees. No thank you. The state fees are quite enough.

Horse racing is still a regional game.

Not that I'm aware of. Only CA and I believe the rule has now been suspended. The mare we tried to claim - Northern Station - has left CA and is currently running in allowance races at Penn National
