Squires on the Preakness saga
From Jim Squires - the jackass who breed Monarchos and wrote the self-serving book A Horse of a Different Color
First there are the people who want to take her there, primarily her new owner Jess Jackson, who has signaled his intentions to ship her to Pimlico without declaring she will be entered. This in itself shows little regard for the owners of the Kentucky Derby winner Mine that Bird, the only horse with a chance to win the Triple Crown, and Rachel Alexandra’s regular jockey Calvin Borel, who would be in the saddle of Mine that Bird if she is not among the 14 starters Saturday. O.K., so that’s part of the game. Keep Borel and everyone else off balance as long as possible. Just let those new guys — Mine That Bird’s owners and trainer — sweat it out. They are only rubes from New Mexico. Welcome to thoroughbred racing ... You have to wonder what Rachel thinks about it all. There are basically three kinds of people in horse racing — those in it for the money, those in it for themselves and those in it for the horse. So far we have heard from only the first two.
Unbelievable. The matchup of the dominating Oaks winner with the Derby cast makes this the most compelling Preakness in years. Bravo to Jess Jackson for running the filly. She is faster than the boys and should win. If she is better than a stick, then I'll empty my accounts backing her. We should congratulate the owner who runs his or her horses against the best. Rachel Alexandra doesn't need to duck anyone. She has dominated other fillies and has the best fig (Beyer, Thorograph, etc) coming into the Preakness.
The owners of Mine That Bird and Pioneerof The Nile deserve all the mud slung at them for their cowardly plan to keep Rachel Alexandra out of the Preakness. Jess Jackson deserves nothing but praise.

I have no comment on the epithet ascribed to Mr. Squires, but I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Gramm. Were I Mr. Jackson I would probably have waited for the Belmont, but that's beside the point.
