Pick Six carryover at Saratoga
After a number of days where someone in the crowd was able to solve the Pick 6 despite all indications that it would carryover, today the Pick 6 was not hit and in retrospect that is a surprise.
My Fair El and English Colony were favorites and Talking Treasure, Tishmeister, and Lhotse Quality were all logical. It is Moon Ala Mode with a 20/1 morning line that gives us the $47,584 carryover going into Friday's card. Moon Ala Mode was bet down to 9/1 and there likely would be no carryover if he had led off the Pick Six. Unfortunately betting the Pick 6 means betting blindly into future races where you have no information on the public's perception of a horse's chance of winning. This is especially detrimental when having to evaluate maiden races. Luckily NYRA usually kicks off the Pick 6 with maidens (as opposed to the SoCal tracks which will often finish their card with Maiden Claimers). It would be handy to be able to look at the early action for future races and it would be easy enough to display the odds and pool totals for all races on the card, not just the next race in line. I know there is a toteboard at Saratoga that lists the odds for all races on the card but that doesn't help me - I'm sitting here at home in Memphis.
The following table is the 9th race and final leg of the Pick 6. Shockingly there were a total of 9 tickets alive to horse with higher odds than the winner Lhotse Quality (including two live to 23/1 longshot Our Wonder Cat!)
By the way Little Andy picked Moon Ala Mode at the Siro's seminar.
