Drugs keep Honor In War out of Cox Plate

U.S. challenger Honor In War was scratched from today's Cox Plate, Australia's top weight for age race, because of concerns that he would fail a drug test for steroids (Racing and Sports).

Trainer Danny O'Brien was forced to withdraw Honor In War after the horse failed to pass a precautionary swab. Honor In War had been treated with a steroid in America and traces of the substance were found to be still in his system when he was tested on Friday. Chief steward Des Gleeson said the substance was a legitimate treatment in America but was not acceptable under Australian rules. O'Brien would have been in breach of the rules if he had started Honor In War and the eight-year-old had tested positive to a banned substance.
